In vitro Study of Biological Activity of Pleurotus oyster Extract

         Two kinds of Pleurotus oyster mushroom isolates were collected. The first isolate was the local type and the second isolate was the commercial type.Crude polysaccharide extract was isolated from Pleurotus oyster mushroom as a brown powder extract by using hot water extraction method.This crude extract was characterized by using molish test and phenol-sulphuric test.

The Effect of Lactic Acid Bacteria on Bacterial Causes of Severe Acne Vulgaris

Sixteen isolates of lactic acid bacteria were isolated from dairy products collected from Baghdad markets. The isolates were identified into 4 genera; Lactobacillus (6 isolates), Lactococcus (2 isolates), Pediococcus (4 isolates) and Leuconstec (4 isolates). Later, further identification of lactobacillus showed the isolates belonged to Lb. plantarum (Lb.1 and Lb.3), Lb. bulgaricus (Lb.4), Lb. acidophilus (Lb.2), Lb. brevis (Lb.5) and Lb.

Genetic Improvement of Antifungal Compound Production by Pseudomonas aeruginosa OM13

          The ability of P.aeruginosa OM13 in antagonizing or inhibiting the growth of some phytopathogenic fungi was tested by measuring the inhibition zone for the growth of the test fungi (Alternaria alternate, Rhizoctonia solani) caused by the growth of the bacterial isolate (P.aeruginosa OM13 ) and by the action of the culture filtrate of this isolate on test fungi. It was found that this isolate inhibited the growth of the test fungi and the inhibition zone was 5mm, 7mm for A. alternate and R.
