Abstract:

Since the discovery of the optical fiber in 1956 and its testing and applications were increased to consist typical uses like business electronics, communication, commercial computer, militaryelectronics, industrial electronics and instrumentation. Most of the improvement has been concentrated first on the communication used only later, in the mid of the seventies the development of optical fiber sensor started.Two aims are achieved in this thesis first is to investigate the design and implementation of a fiber optic communication system, in addition the design and performance of individual components of this system are discussed and tested in details. Also the operation principles and characteristics of the proposed system are theoretically analyzed using SPICE software.The second aim is to test the optical fiber as strain sensor and study its behavior for different frequencies, signals and fiber lengths input.
