Abstract:

This research intents to build a photovoltaic system, which is useful for home applications, industrial, communications, street light, water pumping and electrification of village to convert the solar energy into electric power at high level. The system which consists of the following stages (PV, converter, charge controller, inverter, DC link, filter and snubber circuit) is designed primarily with a general module depending on Orcad PSPICE program to produce high power output nearly (1.25kVA and 18kVA at 50 Hz) with a pure sine wave output for both voltage and current. Two prototype systems have been designed, the first one with a power output of 1.25kVA where MOSFET is used as a power switching device. After designing and simulating this system, the intended PWM inverter and the control unit (EPROM) to produce the PWM are built experimentally to compare its results with the simulated one. Also this inverter is compared with the voltage cancellation inverter which has been built experimentally as well as. The comparison between the simulated result and the experimental results gives good agreement in both approaches. The second system has output power of 18kVA and the IGBT is used instead of MOSFET, where the differences between them are explained. The analysis of the second system is carried out only by using PSPICE software the simulated results give pure sine wave for both the voltage and the current.
