Fundamentals are presented for Fast Ethernet LANs and speaker recognition techniques. The latest relevant National and International publications are surveyed. The present system is given the acronym VALCUTEPROC: experimental eVALuation of CompUTation stEps of digital signal PROCessing over fast lan .VALCUTEPROC has been used experimentally to evaluate an authentication system based on voice recognition techniques of passwords to the network. Recognition system enables the user to access the network. System policies include user rights, access time, sharing resources of the network, and user accounts. Using Windows NT 4.0 operating system, parameters experimentally evaluated by VALCUTEPROC are speech duration, pitch period, and fourteen LPC coefficients. Calculations of LPC coefficients used Biased Estimation, Unbiased Estimation, and Recursive Estimation.VALCUTEPROC experimental results show that, pitch period and word duration are very useful to speed up the system, in isolated words energy measurement is very efficient for speech/silence detection. LPC Unbiased Estimation is little more efficient than Biased Estimation for speaker recognition application, while Recusive Estimation is inefficient for the same Application. VALCUTEPROC shows high accuracy for, speech/silence detection (90%), male/female distinguishing (97%), right rejection of imposters (96%), and right acceptance of users (81%).
