The Student activities department at the University of Al- Nehrain has organized many sport activities during the current academic year, in order to activate the sports movement among students and administrative. This was reflected through the establishment of several tournaments, most recently was the Basketball Championship.
The tournament was held under the patronage of Mr. Rector Prof. Dr. Nabil Kazim Abdul Sahib, who stressed on the necessity of activating the university sport and break the routine of college life and prepare the teams for the finals, on the condition that the activities do not affect the scientific level of the students.
Dr. Hamid Yusuf, director of student activity, has said that this is the first tournament held by the University of Al- Nehrain due to the keenness of our department to activate all sport activities of various kinds. We were also responsible for preparing the teams for the final match, which took place between the Faculty of Science and Medicine. The Faculty of Science team has won the championship and the golden trophy. While the Faculty of Medicine has won the silver trophy for coming second in position.
Yusuf has added that these activities also helps to increase the effectiveness of the students' activities in order to raise their physical fitness and break the routine, as well as giving them the opportunity to practice their personal hobbies. The department aims at choosing a team that represents the University of Al- Nehrain to participate in the Iraqi universities Championship under the supervision of student activities department/ the department of supervision and development / the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
