An Instructor at Al-Nahrain University’s College of Pharmacy Publishes a Scientific Study on the Role of Genetic Variation in Response to Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment.

Dr. Aya Fawzi Talib, an instructor in the Clinical Pharmacy Branch at the College of Pharmacy, Al-Nahrain University, and Head of the Postgraduate Studies Department, has co-authored a scientific research paper published in the Iraqi Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, which is indexed in the Scopus database. The study examines the role of genetic variation in treatment response among patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

The research, entitled “Assessment of the Role of Interleukin-6 (IL-6-174 C/G) Gene Polymorphism in Inflammatory Biomarker Levels and Therapeutic Response to Rituximab in Iraqi Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis,” aims  to investigate the relationship between genetic variations, inflammation levels, and treatment efficacy, as well as the potential use of genetic analysis to support the selection of appropriate therapies.

The study highlights the promising potential of investigating genetic variation as an auxiliary marker for predicting treatment response, supporting the shift toward personalized medicine and improving therapeutic options. It also emphasizes  the importance of conducting larger-scale studies to validate the findings and assess their potential for clinical application.
