A Master’s Thesis in Political Science Examines the Impact of Digital Media on Electoral Behavior

The College of Political Science at Al-Nahrain University discusses the Master’s thesis submitted by the student Zeina Hussein Ali from the Department of Political Systems and Public Policies, entitled  Digital Media and Its Impact on Electoral Behavior in Iraq After 2014 .
The study aims to examine the role of digital media in shaping public opinion and constructing the public image of candidates and political parties, as well as the use of digital platforms in electoral campaigns and its impact on electoral participation, abstention, and changes in voters’ electoral preferences, with a focus on the Iraqi parliamentary elections of 2021 and 2025.
The study finds  that digital media has become an influential factor in Iraqi electoral behavior, contributing to greater political engagement and enabling voters to follow candidates and evaluate their platforms. However, its impact interacts with other factors, most notably trust in institutions, social affiliations, government performance, the level of political awareness, and the nature of electoral discourse. The most effective digital campaigns are those that combine  online activity with a strong presence on the ground.
