The Head of the Pharmaceutics Department at the College of Pharmacy, Al-Nahrain University, Assis. Prof.Dr. Yasser Qasim, has published a scientific chapter in a peer-reviewed academic book issued by the international publisher Springer, in collaboration with Prof.Dr. Nidhal Khazal Marai and Assistant Lecturer Aseel Suhail.
The chapter addresses the latest research trends in the treatment of skin cancer, with a focus on developing innovative therapeutic alternatives that help reduce the need for surgical intervention and minimize the side effects associated with conventional treatments.
The research includes a review of several advanced therapeutic techniques, including the use of topical treatments based on modern drug delivery systems designed to enhance drug penetration into deeper layers of the skin, thereby increasing effectiveness in targeting cancer cells at early stages. It also discusses the development of photodynamic therapy, which relies on the interaction between light and photosensitive compounds to generate reactive oxygen species that destroy cancer cells through multiple mechanisms.
Additionally, the chapter highlights the application of magnetic fields as an emerging approach that has shown promising results in reducing tumor size. It also covers the use of advanced preclinical evaluation techniques, such as confocal microscopy, tumor xenograft models, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), to accurately assess tumor response to treatment.
