According to its commitment to the principles of the sutainable development and its caring for providing a university with a balanced environment ,Al-Nahrain University fulfills a water lake project inside the University Campus with its aim for filling the gap in water resources ,supporting the green areas and enhancing the efficiency of using the natural resources.
This project comes as a part of the university's strategic vision to develop its infrastructure by using a scientific manner which goes in line with the international environmental principles and it participates to achieve the sustainable development aims , especially the six aim which is concerned with the clean water and eleven one which is concerned with the cities and local continuous communities.
In his own statement, the President of Al-Nharain University, Prof.Dr.Ali Abd Al-Aziz Al-Shawy says:"The water lake project represents one of aspects of the transformed environment inside the university reflecting the institutional consciousness of the climate and water challenges that face the community and environment alike achieving our aims in the sustainability making the university sample in wise using water and energy. "
His excellency adds :"We believe that the universities are not only scientific institutions ,but also leading platforms in facing the environmental and climate changes ,so we work to establish the culture of sustainability between our students and affiliates through real practices and leading projects."
In his own side, Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs,Prof.Dr.Alaa Huseein Abd explains that the project comes as a response for the urgent need to treat seasonal water scarcity referring to the importance of the project according to the environmental and service aspects in which he says:" The lake was created by using engineering manner which allowed the collection of rainwater and excess water and reused it for irrigating the green area which reduced the dependence on the traditional resources of water and we took care to fulfill this project according to the principles of safety and sustainability to be a permanent resource supporting the environmental infrastructure inside the university.
This project is fulfilled by Department of Bureau Affairs in cooperation with Agriculture Branch in which their efforts contribute to change the thought into a reality which enhances the beauty of the university campus and its sustainability. Presidency of Al-Nahrain University ensures its commitment to going forward with the execution of the created environmental projects which participate to enhancing the quality of university life establishing the positon of the university describing it as an responsible educational institution and an active one for the service of the community and environment.
