The College of Science Organizes a Discussion Seminar on Toxic Effects and Programmed Cell Death

The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Science organized a discussion seminar titled “Toxic Effects of Cells and Programmed Cell Death of Tin(IV) Complexes Containing a Schiff Base Derivative from Cephalexin on Breast Cancer Cell Line,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Abeer Arfan Adnan.

The seminar presented a recent study that focused on synthesizing new metal complexes and evaluating their toxic effects on human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) and normal skin cells (HDFn). The results showed the ability of the synthesized organic tin complexes to effectively inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells, with the dibutyl derivative showing higher anticancer activity compared to other derivatives.

The study indicated that high-content screening (HCS) technology revealed a significant decrease in the viability of MCF-7 cells, reflecting the effectiveness of the complexes in inducing programmed cell death.
