The Department of Mathematics and Computer Applications at the College of Science, Al-Nahrain University, organized a workshop titled “Fractal Geometry,” presented by Dr. Iman Abdulwahab Hussein, with the attendance of several faculty members.
The workshop addressed the concept of fractal geometry and its importance in describing the properties of natural shapes, focusing on examining the mathematical characteristics of certain phenomena and interpreting them based on fractal properties. It explained that fractal geometry is based on irregular shapes consisting of overlapping parts of different sizes, formed through the repetition of nonlinear equations or the application of specific mathematical rules. It also highlighted the feature of dividing the main shape into smaller parts, each being a miniature version of the whole.
The workshop also explored the applications of fractal geometry in various fields, such as digital image analysis, architectural system design, and studying natural phenomena like clouds and mountain formations. It emphasized the importance of this science in providing innovative solutions to complex scientific problems.
