A Faculty Member from Al-Nahrain University Participates in the Warith International Conference Held in Karbala

Assistant Professor Dr. Sahar Madhat Hussein, a faculty member at the College of Biotechnology at Al-Nahrain University, participated in the Warith International Conference held in Karbala, with her research titled: “Association of Genetic Polymorphism in the TLR4 Gene in Iraqi Women with Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections and Septicemia”.

The research aimed to explore the genetic variability of the TLR4 gene and its increased susceptibility to recurrent urinary tract infections and septicemia among Iraqi women. The study included 220 samples of blood, serum, and urine.

The findings indicated that genetic variation in the TLR4 gene, particularly the allele rs4986791, increases the risk of chronic urinary tract infections. A new genetic deletion mutation was also discovered in Iraqis, which has not been previously recorded as a global risk factor. The study emphasized the importance of early genetic screening for women at risk of recurrent urinary tract infections, contributing to better diagnosis and the development of effective treatment strategies.
