Abstract:

I.Aretrospective study of 400 medical records of surgically prooVed Hydatid disease admitted to medical city teaching hospital (M.C.H) Baghdad, from the begining of January 1986 to the end of December 1990 was carried out. II Added to this a study of the present position of hydatidosis in Iraqi regions and provinces in general was conduted, depending on official data of Ministry Of Health And Ministry Of Planning. III The study of the 400 Medical records revealed the followings: 1. Age : Most of the cases (19.5%) were between 40-49 ys old. 18.75% of cases were between 20-29 ys old. 2. Sex : Male to Female ratio = 1 : 1.5 3. Occupation : Housewives comprise 51.5% of cases. 4. Provinces : Cases were admitted from all parts of Iraq. 5. Urban - rural differences : Urban cases comprises 57.5% of cases, rural cases comprises 42.5% of cases. 6. Site of the lesion : 53% of cases in the Liver 27% of cases in the Lung 20% in other sites of the body 7. Multiplicity : 67.5% of cysts are Solitary. 32.5% are multiple. 8. Eosinophil Count : 20% of cases showed 0-2% Eosiophils Count 45% of xBases showed 3-10% Eosiophils Count 35% of case's showed 11% and above. 9. Agglutination test in 210 cases was done : 85.7 of cases were positive 14.3% of cases were negative 10. Chest X ray : 133 cases (chest- X ray) was done 94% positive 6% negative 11. Ultrasonography : 251 cases were done 96.5% were positive 3.5% were negative 12. C.T. Scan : 134 cases were done 97.8% were positive 2.2% were negative IV The study of the present position of hydatidosis in Iraq for the years (1986-1990) revealed the following: 1. Morbidity rate of ydatidosis per 100.000 of population in Iraq is showing some variation towards increase from the years 1986-1989 to decline in the year 1990.
