Abstract:

1- During the period of first of Hay till 30th of December 1992 , 1811 clini- cally suspected cases of cholera were examined , 1800 gave negative and 11 gav3 rositive stool culture . 10 cases of 11 caused by ( NAG ) serotype and one case caused by ELTor biotype ( Ogawa serotype ) 2- During the period of first of May till( 30th of October 1993, 6530 clini¬cally sespected cases of cholera were examined by stool culture , 6410^of them gave (negative result) and 120 gave positive . 10^ of cases were caused by ELTor biotype ( ogawa serotype ) and 16 cases were caused by NAG serotype . The peaks were at May and July in 1992 , and at May , June and July in 1993, then subsided after that without mass immunization campaign. Most of cases in 1992 were mild , 7/11 (63.6%) and treated as an out patients by oral rehydration therapy (ORT) and antibiotics While in 1993 most of cases were hospitalized , 99/120 (82.5%) and were treated by I.V fluid and an¬tibiotics . Both: sexes and all age groups were affected by the disease , but children less than 10 years mostly were affected by the disease for both two years ( 9/11 -81.8% for 1992 and 96/120 80% for 1993 ) . Source of infection which was lated from stored drinking water in some rural houses and from surrounded water.
