Abstract:

Using of infrared laser in the heating of the solid materials is one of modern methods of laser surface treatment. Laser surface treatment includes many applications as welding, drilling, cutting, cladding, alloying, surface cleaning, and marking. IR laser is one type of the industrial lasers (ë is above 0.7 ìm) and it's currently used such as (Nd: YAG laser and CO2 laser). There are three types of solid materials: conductors, insulators, and semiconductors. Each type has physical and mechanical properties that are different from another type, so the shape of the heat distribution will be influenced by the difference of the properties of the solid materials. When the laser beam impinges on the surface of the solid materials, many interactions will be happened; these interactions will be depended on the properties of the material and on the power of the laser beam. The simulation of the MATLAB (version 6.1) programming was used to implement the programs to show the heat distribution of the solid materials with distance, and to show the change in the temperature of the solid materials with time, when applied the infrared laser beam on the different solid materials.
