Abstract:

A theoretical investigation is carried out in the study of diode-pumped solid state laser systems. This thesis presents an analysis of side pumped model. This model studies four different laser materials. From this model, the threshold input power, output power; optimum transmission, extraction efficiency, and slope efficiency are calculated. A range of neodymium doped crystals, operating in continuous wave mode at 1064 nm, are compared as laser gain materials, including Nd:YAG, Nd:YVO4, Nd:SFAP, and Nd:SVAP. Slope efficiencies exceeding 40% and thresholds of less than 100mW were measured for all these lasers. The results are computed using computer program that is written in MATLAB 6.5.
