Abstract:

This thesis is devoted to study the estimation of 2D-Angle of Arrival (2D-AOA) of the signals incoming from the sources by using the data collected from Equally Spacing Planar Array (ESPA) based on the 2D-ESPRIT. Several computer programs are built to test the performance of this method and to summarize their capabilities and limitations for comparison purposes. It is found that this method is efficient even at worst conditions low SNR, closely spaced targets, short length of snapshots, and fully correlated targets, but degradation in its performance occurs when the number of sensors is reduced (i.e. when the number of the sensors in each subarray is equal to or less than the unknown parameter of the targets (azimuth and elevation angles)). Spatial Smoothing (SS) and Forward/Backward Spatial Smoothing (FBSS) techniques are studied to overcome the high error that occurs when 2DESPRIT method is used. More smoothing is extracted by using these methods. From previous studies, it is concluded that FBSS technique is the best. Several computer programs are built. For comparison between (2D-ESPRIT and 2D-FBSS-ESPRIT). From the results obtained by these programs a substantial improvement occurs in performance of the modify method as compared with original method.
