PREDICTION OF PRESSURE DROP IN PACKED BED FOR WATER AND AIR SYSTEMS

Semi-empirical equations for fluid flow through packed bed have been proposed, depending on statistical fitting of experimental data. Two types of fluids have been used (water and air) separately (single phase flow). Several size distributions of sphere packing materials have been used in the packed bed, and each had been studied separately.Different parameters affecting the pressure drop of fluid flow through

STUDY THE KINETIC OF RECOVERY OF VANADIUM FROM OIL FIRED POWER STATIONS

In this work, it was attempted to study the kinetic of vanadium recovery from fly ash residue by leaching with NaOH solution from previous work of Mosa (1999).The selected data was chosen when particle size of fly ash were 125, 150 and 200 µm, temperature 343, 353 and 373 K, reaction (leaching) time from 1 to 8 hours and at almost constant concentration of  NaOH solution (molarity 3, 3.5 and 4 M).The results showed that vanadium recovery increased with time and temperature and decreased with particle size.A second degree polynomial mathematical correlation was e

PREDICTION OF MASS TRANSFER COEFFICIENT UNDER TWO PHASE FLOW CONDITIONS USING TURBULENT DIFFUSION MODELS

A theoretical study has been performed to analyze the mass transfer and shear stress in co-current annular, two phase gas-liquid (air-water), turbulent flow conditions in a horizontal pipe using eddy diffusivity concept. The mass transfer coefficient has been predicted and discussed for a wide range of liquid superficial Reynolds number (Re=2000 to 40000), gas superficial Reynolds number (Re=10000 to 80000), liquid Schmidt number (Sc temperatures (25oC - 60oLsgsL=100 to 3000), and liquid C).

MASS TRANSFER OF NAPHTHALENE FROM AN IMMERSED SURFACE TO A SAND-AIR FLUIDIZED BED

Fluidization process is widely used by a great assortment of industries worldwide and represents a trillion dollar industry [6].They are currently used in separation, classification, drying and mixing of particles, chemical reactions and regeneration processes;one of these processes is the mass transfer from an immersed surface to a gas fluidized bed. Mass transfer coefficient is a diffusion rate constant that relates the mass transfer rate, mass transfer area, and concentration gradient as driving force.

Electrochemical Reactor Simulation for Metal Ion Removal under Mass Transport Controlled Conditions

In the present work modeling and design of packed bed electrochemical reactor operating under limiting current conditions has been accomplished. The conditions at which simulation model is made are: steady state, one-dimensional,flow-through operation. The considered reaction is copper deposition from an electrolyte solution containing copperic sulfate and sulfuric acid as a supporting electrolyte with the assumption of the absence of side reactions, the bed is packed with spherical particles. The effect of three parameters such that: electrolyte

STUDY OF DRAG REDUCTION IN TURBULENT FLOW USING HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT POLYMERS

Drag reduction has been studied in a build-up closed loop water circulation system using two different types of polymers namely: carboxy methylcellulose CMC and Xanthan Gum, XG of molecular weight 0.4*106and 5.0*106g/mol respectively. The turbulent mode was produced via a positive displacement gear pump to avoid mechanical degradation of polymer chain during the experimented period.

The effect of surface activeagents on friction reduction in pipe liquid flow

The turbulent drag-reduction effectiveness of two anionicsurfactants, Sodium Dodecy -Benzene Sulfonate (SDBS) and Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) has been studied in a build up closed loop water circulation system, the turbulent mode wasproduced via a positive displacement gear pump to avoidmechanical degradation surfactant molecules during theexperimental period. Drag- reduction results were assessed bymeasuring the pressure drop over 2m test section.
