Abstract:

Current measurement or monitoring is a common requirement spanning many types of applications; these may include any application from portable hand held equipment through to automotive applications. This thesis introduces the design and implementation of a practical system to measure, record and billing the consumption of electricity account in different locations. The proposed system consists of two parts; first part is the permanent unit which will be installed permanently inside the measurement location. This unit will log the data accumulatively using 89C51 microcontroller. It has a unique defining address which indicates the location address. The second part is the portable unit which has the ability to perform the functions of collecting the data from several permanent units, data storage then transfers the data to the computer through RS232 port. The computer will process the storage data for billing the consumption of electricity. The system will deal with Amperes per minutes as a cost unit which helps in using it in dynamic electricity providing. The system is implemented and tested successfully.
