Abstract: The databases technology has acquired a great deal of attention from the academic community and computer industry for their wide use and success; it can be described as the most developed growing field in computer or information system. Distributed database helps eliminating many of the shortcomings of centralized database This work concerns with the design and implementation of mark system in the college of engineering of Nahrain University. The distributed database was applied to that system and the work was distributed between the deanery site and the departments of the college. Each department is independent of the other departments and at the same time each department is connected to the deanery. Each site was protected through using user-names and passwords, in addition to the authorities. These authorities prevent unauthorized persons from using the system which increases the integrity of the system. From the deanery site the general information which is public to all the college was added, such as the information about the staff and the departments of the college, while the department contains the general information about the students, the users of the system, the subjects studied at that department, as well as the examination marks of the students. The proposed system provides efficient, flexible, and secure methods for information exchange between the deanery and the departments. Also it provides the necessary and required reports about the students and staff members of the college. The database was implemented using the MySQL Database Management System (DBMS) and the user interface application was implemented using the Visual Basic.NET (VB.NET).
