Al-Nahrain Engineering Discusses Developing Catalysts to Improve GasolineFuel

Department of Chemical Engineering in the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University discusses the   Phd  thesis by student Alaa Jassim Awad entitled  Catalytic Isomerization of Hexane Using a Bi-functional Nanocatalyst to Raise the Octane Number of Gasoline Fuel.”
The study aims for  developing  bifunctional nanocatalysts which are based on tungstenophosphoric acid and platinum loaded on metal oxides (Nb2O5, Al2O3, and TiO2) to improve the efficiency of hexane isomerization.

The results shows that the Pt/TPA/Nb2O5 catalyst achieves an isomerization efficiency of 51% through its suitable structural properties and acidity. These results are regarded as an important step in developing environmentally friendly technologies to improve the quality of gasoline fuel.
