Al-Nahrain Engineering Discusses a Thesis on Designing an Intelligent Optical Microscope for Leukemia Detection

The College of Engineering in Al-Nahrain University discusses the thesis of student ,Lubna Abdulkarim Abbas from the Department of Laser and Optoelectronics Engineering  entitled “Design of a Smart Optical Microscope with a Mobile Application which Works with   All Smartphones for Leukemia Detection.”

The thesis focuses on integrating advanced imaging techniques and artificial intelligence to develop a portable and cost-effective diagnostic system which aims for improving early leukemia detection.

The study aims for  developing  a   specifically designed smartphone microscope equipped with an  algorithm which depends on the artificial intelligence  to classify the four major types of leukemia accurately: AML, ALL, CML, and CLL. The system   is easily used, enabling the mobile application to capture images of blood samples, analyze them using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model and display diagnostic results instantly.

The findings of thesis explain that   the system’s success in presenting an accurate and early leukemia diagnoses, particularly in resource-limited areas and it is regarded as an advanced step in applying Artificial Intelligence   and smartphone technology to improve healthcare services.
