Faculty of College of Science/ Chemistry Department has finished a training course set up in collaboration with the Organization of Chemical Safety and Protection (CSP)
The course introduced by professors of Chemistry Department and lasted for three days. It addresses the importance of occupational safety in dealing with the equipment and materials and in chemical exposure cases.
The dean of College of Science, Dr. Hadi Mohammad Ali who supervised the Course, said that the wrong practices and lack of awareness threaten people exposed to these used materials whether faculty, supervisors or students during their work in the laboratory with the devices or chemicals. Dr. Hadi emphasized on the importance of protection for persons who work in this field to prevent any kind of injury or illness caused by exposure to such materials.
Dr. Imad Abdul Hussein Yousef, who is one of the trainers, clarifies that the aim of such courses is to raise awareness of professors, researchers and students who work in the laboratory and have a direct contact with the tools and chemicals.
For the sake of the safety of staff, the College of Science always try to spread the awareness of health safety and how to maintain and use caution and precision in contact with special services experiments that have a direct contact with the different types of toxins or other materials.
The Course included three axes: the first on was an introduction to the program of chemical safety and security, while the second was on ventilation / suction and fire prevention and protection in the laboratory. The third was a review for the chemical toxins and chemical administration.
For the sake of feedback and assessment for the course and its participants, a written test that consists of thirty multiple-choice questions and a questionnaire are presented to the participants to be answered by the end, and then presented to the committee to check what has been achieved throughout this course.
