The present study included the determination of carcinoebryonic antigen (CEA) levels in 40 gastrointestinal tract (GIT) cancer patients. Whose blood were also tested for lymphocyte and phagocyte functional integrity by the lymphocyte transformation test and phagocytosis against Staphylococcus aureaus The immunological analysis also included the testing of plasma immunosuppressive property of lymphocyte blastogenic reponse to phytoheamagglutinine (PHA) and concavaline –A (Con-A). Blood samples from patients and normal healthy controls were cultured in the presence of PHA) and with and without homologous plasma. In another study plasma suppressive activity from these patients were investigated using peripheral blood leukocyte (PBL) from normal individuals. The results showed that CEA levels were significantly increased in all patients groups, CEA values were > 10ng/ml. A significant correlation was detected was between CEA levels and immunostatus of the patients. An increased levels of CEA were associated with adepressed immune response as detemined by low blastogenic response to PHA and Con-A, low phagocytic function, and increased plasma suppressive activity. The haematological tests includes, haemoglobin (llb),platelets counts, packed cells volume (PCV), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), total white blood cells (WBCs), and differential white blood cells counts, were performed for all groups. Analysis of the results showed a significant elevation of ESR and total WBCs counts with neutrophilia, while llb, PCV and platelets counts were decreased
