191 Work injuries were studies in the state nterprise for leather Industries during the years 1991-1992 and 1993.Rates of injuries were higher than females during the 3 years of the studt. The rates were 3.5%, 3.5% and 4.%5 for males and 1.3%, 1.7% and 1.4% for feales A. decline in the ratesof injuries with increased years of experience was observed till the 10th year where the rates increased again. High rates were observed also among workers who can only read and wiite. The rates were 5.2%, 4.3% and 4.5% during the 3 years. A decline was observed with increased level of education. High rates were also recorded among workers less than 19 years of age and a decline was observed with increased age of workers till the fourth decade thenafter the rates increased again during the period of the study. Injuries of moderate degree of severity were the commonest type of injuries. They comprised 64.4%, 49.2% and 68.5% of the total injuries during the tree years of the study. Highest rates of injuries were reported among electricians, while machine workers were having the second highest rates during the same period. Wounds constituted the highest percentage of the total injuries, they were 49.2%, 54.2% and 65.8% and the upper extremetieswere the commonest parts of the body exposed to such injuries during the study , they constituted 66.1%, 79.7% and 72.6% during the three years . As for the time of injuries , highest rates of work injuries were recorded during the hours extending between 9 a.m. to less than 11 a.m.. The rates were 50.9%, 44.1% and 38.4% during the study and summer months were the highest season for work injuries. Wensday was the day with the highest rates of injuries. The rates were 23.7%, 28.8% and 32.9%. And lastly days lost/ 1000 workers at during 3 years of the study were 171.9, 204.3 and 171.9 days.
