Abstract:

A retrospective study of 303 infants admitted to the paediatric hopspital in Ramadi province complaining of acute diarrhoea during the period 1st November 1991-30th April 1992. The local patient's records vas used to collect data needed, i.e., age, sex, Residence, management measures and out come of the disease. The aim of this study is to assess the size of the problem in this province and to obtain a base line data for prevention and control of this disease The present study showed the following results: 1.Diarrhoea 1 disease was most prevalent in lat'e infancy period and less frequent in early infancy period . 2.Male / Female ratio shows male preponderance. 3-The type of feeding is mostly bottle feeding. 4. Oral rehyaration solution (ORS) was used in high percentage 5. More than half of the patients were living in rural-area. 6. The sensonal distribution of the patients shows that the majority admitted during winter and the reminder during autumn and spring 7. The case fatality rate was very low and this equal to 0.67.
