Abstract:

Wasit governorate during 1909-1991, were studied retrospect ively and data wore analysed according to age, sex, residence and water supply, whether from water plants or from rivers arid to the typo of feeding regarding children under one year of age which h.ive shown many cases of cholera. (106 cases) some of them (19 cases) were breast fed. Moreover calculating case/carrier and male/female ratio for each ye;, c Accordingly more males than females were discovered during the study as an infection, but in 1989 we got more female cases than male cases but more male carrier than female carrier. Whereas for every one case we discovered 2-6 carriers in the urban area and also for the rural area, except in the first four months of 1991 where more cases than carriers were detected and this is because of the aggressive war against our country and discontinuity of safe or pure water supply and decreased health activities and survei Hence of the disease. Most of the cases apjjear on April increasing during summer time and start declining after October with the beginning of winter. Some cases and carriers did appear during December and January i.e. in winter, Death ma i nlyoccurred in the females and in the rural area more than the urban area, and in most of the cases died, the causative organism was of Ogawa serotypevibrio in addition to what have been said (he disease is becoming endemic in Iraq showing sporodic cases or in a protracted pattern .since 1966.
