Abstract:Despite the numerous advantages, microstrip patch antennas suffer from narrow bandwidth which is approximately within 3-6% of the central frequency, one of the efficient methods used for the enhancement of MSPA
bandwidth is the loading of MSPA with a slot coupling. This thesis introduces the design and simulation of a single slot patch antenna with an enhanced bandwidth. Rectangular, tapered and trapezoidal slots with two types of feeding (probe feed and line feed) are proposed for the designed and analysis. The proposed configurations are simulated and analyzed using Microwave office software package. The VSWR, input impedance and radiation patterns performances are used for the analysis of the different configurations. The simulated results for rectangular slot give bandwidth of 260MHz (11.25% fractional bandwidth) that means, the bandwidth enhancement is approximately 3 times higher than that of original case (patch without slot), for probe feeding system, and 640 MHz (27.46%fractional bandwidth) which is 7 times higher than that of the original case (patch without slot), for feed line system. Tapered slot gives bandwidth of 560MHz (21.05%fractional bandwidth), in this case the enhancement is around 6 times for probe feeding system, and 670MHz (27%fractional bandwidth) which is around 8 times of enhancement for feed line system. A trapezoidal slot gives a bandwidth of 1070 MHz (34.38% fractional bandwidth) which gives an enhancement around 10 times higher than that of the original case (patch without slot)for probe feeding system, and 610 MHz (25.26%fractional bandwidth) with 7 times enhancement ratio for feed line system
