Abstract:

Two new ligands which contain (NCS) moiety , have been chosen to prepare a series of some transition metal complexes . These include the allyl derivative of ammo mercapto-thiadiazole (LI),and benzaldehyde Schiff base derivative of LI (LII) . The prepared ligands were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy , and their melting points . The metal complexes of the named ligands have been obtained in solid state and were stable towards light , heat , and moisture . They were characterized by FT-IR and UVVis spectra , conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements , and elemental analysis (C.H.N.) . On the basis of these techniques the structural formula of the prepared complexes have been suggested which include : 1. Complexes of Cu(II) , Fe(III),V(IV) and Co(II) ions with(LI) where the copper complex show to have the formula [CuLINO3(H2O)2]2 -(NO3)2 . H2O
and that of iron (III) complex shove to have the binuclear structure ; [Fe(LI)(H2O)(OH)(SO4)]2.2H2O , whereas vanadium complex show to have the formula [VOLISO4] .H2O and that of the cobalt complex is [CoLINO3(H2O)2]2 .(NO3)2 .C2H5OH.H2O . 2. Complexes of Cu(II) and Fe(II) ions with (LII) where the
copper complex show to have the formula [Cu(LII)(NO3)].NO3 and that for iron(II) complex is [FeLIISO4(H2O)2] .2H2O . Different bonding and structural behaviour were revealed during the study of coordination chemistry of the different complexes of the new ligands . The Racah and other ligand field parameters which illustrate the bonding nature between metal ion and donor atoms of the ligand were calculated for iron(III) complex using (Tanabe Sugano) diagram .
