Abstract:

Benzene extract of powdered leaves of Lavandula vera DC. (Labiatae) yielded salvigenin as flavonoid, betullinic acid and oleanolic acid as pentacyclic triterpene by column chromatography. Tow new diterpenes, 7β-ethoxy-8,13- abiatadiene-11,12- dione-20,6-olide and 7β-hydroxy -8,13-abiatadiene- 11,12-dione-20,6-olide were isolated and their structures were elucidated using spectroscopic methods (u.v., i.r., mass,¹ H-n.m.r. and ¹³C-n.m.r.). Additional two-dimensional n.m.r. techniques was applied in order to obtain unambiguous assignments for the isolated compounds throughout this work. On the other hand, the insoluble materials in dichloromethane gave another compound, it has carboxyl group and alcoholic hydroxyl group, which was certificated by acetyl derivative. It was suggested to be triterpenic acid, but full constitution could not be elucidated because there is no available enough spectral data (except i.r. spectroscopy) for further studies.
