Abstract:

The uniformity of the electric field at the gas discharge reduces the laser system losses i.e. the laser output would be enhanced. This work investigates the design, analysis, fabrication and testing of a compact laser electrodes. It takes three fields. The first field deals with the electrode materials in which the pure SiC and composite SiC with5%-40% Cu ratio. The second field is the design analysis of the laser electrode profiles. Four profiles are selected Change, modified Change, Ernst 4th order and Ernst 8th order. The third field is the structure examination and electrical discharge tasting of the fabricated electrodes. The results obtained from the first field show that the SiC of grain size 133 μm with 40% Cu is better than that of pure SiC when the fabrication conditions are: sintering temperature 1100ºC, forming pressure 1 ton, forming time 30 s and sintering time 60 s.These conditions gave the best surface structure of the electrodes with minimum defect and complete sintering process. The results obtained from the second field of the electrode design analysis shows that the best profile is the Ernst 8th order profile at operation factor ko=0.2.The results obtained from the third of the best performance of the electrical discharge current pulse was found to be 4 A/div. at grain size 133μm of SiC reinforced with 10% Cu.
