Abstract:

Text in image steganography is adopted in this work. The proposed stego systems use different techniques; these techniques are region based stego (RBS), block based encoding (BBE), spread spectrum method (SSM), and frequency domain method (FDM). In the transform domain the Discrete Fourier Transform is used in embedding a text file in the low frequency components of the cover image. The substitution system is applied in the spatial domain preceded by a blocking process. The spread spectrum technique is used in both pproaches to increase the robustness of the system. Error correction technique is also used to increase the robustness of the system. Although an improvement has been achieved in robustness, the imperceptibility of the stego image and the capacity of hiding are both affected. The imperceptibiiity of the stego image is assessed by using peak signaJ-to-noise ratio (PSNR) measure. The stego image, under certain parameters selection, has good quality (PSNR above 30 dB), and at the same time, the probability of correct for the reconstructed hidden text is more than 0.9. To increase system security, a stego-key is generated by using the embedded text itself (i.e. secret key steganography). Active attacks also considered in this work in the form of added noise and applying lossy compression to the stego image. The type of attack used is known stego attack. The results of these attacks show that the message can be reconstructed under a maximum compression ratio of 6, and channel SNR of at least 35 dB can also be tolerated.
