The present work includes the design, construction, and characteristics study of a C.W. diode end pumped Nd: YVO4 laser. A maximum power of 1 watt has been utilized from a laser diode array that has a wavelength of (808) nm to pump a Nd: YVO4 crystal of 1 mm thickness, which was coated from one of its faces to act as a highly reflecting mirror (rear mirror) for 1064 nm wavelength, the output coupler used in this work has a reflectivity of 50 % with a radius of curvature of 300 mm. The work also includes the design and construction of a C.W. power supply of 2.1 volts, 870 mA for the diode laser with its heat sink, which comprises a fan and a number of fins to keep the laser diode at stable temperature. A maximum power of nearly 3 mW at 1064 nm was obtained at a pumping power of 700 mW. The change in the output power was examined at different resonator lengths, (38, 47, 55, 98, 119, and 158 mm). The work includes also theoretical calculations for determining the optimum output coupling, hence the optimum power and the output power that must be attained if the rear mirror was undamaged.
