Abstract:

Human body is a thermal system. It generates heat by various biochemical reactions at cellular level, and maintains its temperature within a short-range using various thermoregulatory mechanisms.Knowledge on heat transfer in biological bodies has many therapeutic applications involving either raising or lowering of temperature and often requires precise monitoring of the spatial distribution of thermal histories that are produced during a treatment protocol. Skin resurfacing hyperthermia is a surgical technique with minimal invasion which employs extreme hot to destroy abnormal tissues .As a part of ongoing efforts to develop computerized planning tools for skin resurfacing hyperthermia.This present study describes the spatial distribution of heat during surgery using two sensors (data logger and IR sensor) and FLUNT software. The skin was considered to be homogenous and isotropic for simplicity. Experiments were performed on 40 female patients and the treated area was the face, by using CO2 pulse laser in laser institute with peak power (241 W), pulse duration (700 μs ), and repeated time ( 70 ms) for all patient . The purpose of the present study was to examine the analytical solutions of a Bioheat Transfer Equation from previous study with what is obtained practically to derive the general characteristics of Bioheat Transfer. The results showed that the spatial temperature distribution has Gaussian behavior (second order), also the curves shows a fluctuation according to the laser beam movement where the temperature increase when the laser beam close to the sensor and the temperature decrease when the laser beam far away from the sensor, the numerical solution indicate that the temperature decrease when the thermal wave propagate inside the skin layers.This study can be used to develop the thermal effect on skin during laser treatment of various skin lesions.
