Different extracts of aerial parts of Teucrium polium were studied for their in vitro antimicrobial activity. These extracts include water extract, hexane extract,, chloroform extract, ethyl acetate extract (hydrolysed and non - hydrolysed) and methanolic extract. Microorganism tested in this study were Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli 'Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans,: Trichophyton rub rum and Geotrichum candidum. Chemical investigation showed that Teucrium Polium contains different active compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, saponin, glycosides, terpenes and steroids. The in vitro tests showed that the best extract of : Teucrim polium with highest antibacterial activity was hexane extract followed by the methanolic extract , non - hydrolysed ethyl acetate extract and finally . the hydrolysed of ethyl acetate extract at different concentrations. Hexane extract of Teucrium polium appeared with highest activity of Inhibition on the fungal growth as compared to the chloroform extract and the least effective hydrolysed of ethyl acetate extract at different concentrations. Essential oils of Teucrium polium achieved by hydrodistillation were highly active against bacterial and fungal growth.
