Poliomyelitis is a prominent public health problem and it has become apparent that previous statistics toased on notification had grossly under estimated the incidence of paralytic poliomyelitis.In Iraq. EPI programme implemented in 1985 and apian of action for polio eradication has been finalized in 1989| and implemented A total 197 cases of poliomyelitis were identified for the period 1989- 1991_ In 1991 » cases of poliomyelitis identified were 14 times greater than that identified in 1989 In 1991 55»2$ of the cases were recieving no vaccine and 7$ with three doses. Two of the cases were Just with age of starting poliovaccine, A good correlation between vaccine efficacy and the OPV doses, 100$ vaccine efficacy was obtained from the third dose.
