Abstract:

This thesis is concerned with the achievement of high-speed data transmission system over mobile radio channels. Such radio channels are time-varying with multipath propagation effect that limits the high- speed data communication. Therefore, estimation of the sampled impulse response of the channel, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and channel severity are necessary for receiver operation. The thesis presents the method to estimate the sampled impulse response of the channel SNR and channel severity together with their computer simulation test results for different conditions of mobile radio channel. The thesis presents the methods that can be used in equalization and detection of received signal over mobile radio channels. Methods to enhance data communication are also presented such as convolutional coding, combined coding, modulation and the recent techniques of turbo equalization. The results of the computer simulation to assess the performance of different
systems are also presented and compared. The results clearly demonstrate importance of knowledge SNR and severity together with channel sampled impulse response estimate. It also shows the improvement that gained by use of turbo equalization over the DFE and VA detector.
