Abstract:

Due to the importance of distance measurement and knowledge of range in wide field of life especially military applications; Thus, due to this importance the optical systems associated with the laser range finders have been investigated computationally in the present work using a new approach for their design with ZEMAX software. In order to select the most favorite design an optimization process have been carried out for the beam expander and beam compressor with regard to materials and performance. A CO2 laser was used with a wavelength of (10.6μm) since the range finder system is intended for operation in the infrared region (IR) of electromagnetic spectrum. The results obtained with the aid of zemax software have been shown as a divergence angle of 19.2 μrad for beam expander which is small value with ZnSe and Si lenses materials respectively, and minimum spot as 59.3 μm with ZnSe lenses. The results have been compared with those obtained by MATLAB program; where small percentage of error has been obtained. The specification of optical systems have been obtained from present investigation can be implemented practically.
