Abstract:

This work presents the design and construction of a low-power medical laser system for bio-stimulating and healing effect applications. The system combines the following simultaneous effects: _ Coherent IR radiation from a pulsed diode laser (904 nm) with frequencies of operation of (1,50,100,1000) Hz, _ Coherent visible radiation from pulsed diode laser (675 nm) with frequency of operation of (2) Hz, _ Incoherent radiation from pulsed IR LED_s (860 -960) nm with frequencies of operation of (1,50,100,1000) Hz , _ Static magnetic field of (15 mT) field strength The exposure times of treatment are (1 or 5)min. The above operating parameters of the system are determined by the medical requirements for the treatment. The experimental work is divided into a number of steps , the first covers the mechanical design of the different system_s constituents, the second covers the design of the suitable control and power supply circuits for each source of the above effects , the third step covers the implementation of all control and power supply circuits and testing their operation, the fourth step is the construction of the device head that contains the different radiating and magnetic field sources, and finally the whole system is assembled and tested as a single medical device that meets the above mentioned design requirements. The power and energy output from each radiating source are measured in order to determine the medical doses of the radiation that are necessary for the treatment and the magnetic field output is measured by a Tesla meter. The medical doses of the radiating elements and the magnetic field are measured . Finally, this laser system was tested for medical treatments at Al-Kindy College of Medicine, University of Baghdad.
