Abstract:

Nowadays the evolution of securities markets using information technology is becoming an important issue because they make exchanges comparable and more integrated. The borders of the market that investors face are blurring. In this way there is an increasing competition among the stock exchanges worldwide and among exchanges and automated trading systems. Based on previous events, five years from now the business of trading shares will look radically different. Many old stock exchanges will be gone. Hardly a month goes by without any changes in the existing trading systems, or one exchange proposing to merge with another. Thus, in this project an electronic trading system for Iraq stock exchange is introduced as a step for the exchange to evolve and be able to compete with other stock exchanges around the world. The system was designed as a network application using web design techniques and protocols which makes it usable on both a local network and on the internet. When the trading system was designed few issues were addressed to make it practical and relatively secure such as providing easy to understand and use interfaces, putting only necessary details in the pages to ensure fast loading time I and providing extra security measures like employing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and encryption. The system responsibilities are: registering brokers, investors and companies as members in the market and managing all aspects of the trading process, it is also the system's responsibility to enforce the stock market's laws and regulations on all members and trading deals (that happen during the trading sessions). STS is a real-time trading system, Investor accounts, broker accounts, account status, the trading process and settlements are in real time. MYSQL Server 6.0 was the chosen Database Management Server (DBMS), Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) and Personal Home Page (PHP) were chosen as programming languages; JavaScript was used for more interactive interfaces and Apache Server 2 as a network server.
