
Dr. Ali Abdulaziz Al-Shawi, President of Al-Nahrain University, received an official delegation from the Lithuanian institution “Osmos” as part of efforts to enhance academic and research cooperation between Iraq and the Republic of Lithuania and to open new horizons for joint collaboration in the fields of digital transformation and modern technologies.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Hassan Al-Khatib, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Digital Transformation and Communications, along with several representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office. Additionally, the university’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, deans of the Colleges of Engineering, Information Engineering, Law, Biotechnology, and the Higher Institute for Judicial Sciences, as well as directors of the Quality Assurance, Cultural Relations, and Career Development departments at the university, were present.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President of Al-Nahrain University welcomed the visiting delegation, emphasizing the university’s commitment to expanding international cooperation with distinguished academic institutions. He highlighted the importance of these partnerships in developing educational and research programs and supporting digital transformation projects in alignment with the Iraqi government’s strategic priorities in this domain.
For their part, the “Osmos” delegation expressed their pleasure at visiting Al-Nahrain University, commending its scientific stature and advanced academic infrastructure. They affirmed the institution’s readiness to engage in practical partnerships in areas of training, research, and development, particularly in the fields of e-governance, digital transformation, and smart technologies.
The deans and concerned officials presented brief overviews of the scientific disciplines and academic programs offered by their colleges. They highlighted key research projects related to information technology and digital transformation, underscoring their preparedness for collaborative research and experience exchange with the Lithuanian side.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to appoint representatives to coordinate the procedures for joint cooperation and to begin drafting a memorandum of understanding. This document will outline areas of collaboration in training, scientific research, and digital technologies, aiming to advance Iraq’s academic and technological progress.
