On Thursday, March 28, 2019, the College of Engineering received students from Shatt al-Arab elementary school, accompanied by the educational counselors Iman Hamza and their teacher, Aghsaan Tohma. The students were received by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Sattar Mohammed, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs Dr. Yasser Yarub Qahtan, Dr. Omar Khaled Fayyad, Head of the Information Division, Dr. Abdulrahman Jameel, Director of the Student Activities Division and lecturer.  Kafi Zghir Shannon, In the beginning, a meeting was held at the Dean’s office in which Dr. Mohammed Abdel-Sattar, Dr. Yasser Yaroub and Dr. Omar Khaled spoke about the college, its mission, objectives, curricula and study system. He also discussed the number of scientific departments, educational outputs, laboratories and others. Looking forward to be future engineers, the students addressed several questions related to the faculty’s specialties and departments, and talked about their wishes and dreams after graduating from the elementary stage in which they want to be effective and constructive personals serving humanity and society. The students visited the field lab in the Civil Engineering Department where they were briefed about the equipment and how to use them in a simplified way. Then they visited the Department of Architecture and viewed the projects of the students, and the importance of these projects and the role of the architect. In the end, the students of the school met with a number of the students of the college and they talked about the study and the university life.

Al-Nahrain university magazine for Engineering Sciences obtained the certificate of the influence coefficient issued by the Arab Influence Factor Project, a special influence factor for magazines published in Arabic only. The certificate shows that the coefficient of influence of the magazine for 2018 was 1.1, which is good compared to the coefficient of influence of the other participating magazines. The Arab Influence Factor provides a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the ranking, evaluation and classification of Arabic-language journals for academic evaluation and excellence. This coefficient is used to evaluate the quality of these magazines.

On Monday, March 25, 2019, Al-Jawahiri Secondary School for Girls visited  the Faculty of Engineering. They were received by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs Dr. Yasser Yarob Qahtan, Dr. Reem Salam from the Students Activities Division and Engineer Bassam Sabah, In the beginning, a meeting was held in Dejela  hall and Dr. Yasser Yarub talked about the college, its mission, objectives, curriculum and study system. He also discussed the number of scientific departments, educational outputs, laboratories and others. During the meeting, Dr. Reem Salam talked about the university life after completing the preparatory stage, which is considered a qualitative leap in the student’s life. She  also talked about some activities carried out by the students in the college from painting, handicrafts to sports activities. The students visited the laboratories of the Civil Engineering Department, the Chemical Engineering Laboratories, the Engineering Laboratories and the Industrial Support Department. The Department also visited the Department of Architecture and the students’ projects. Each laboratory officials explained the work of the equipment and the quality of the work and experiments carried out by the student during their studies

On Sunday, March 24, 2019, the College of Engineering received a delegation from the Defense University for Military Studies.  A joint meeting was held between the two parties. The College of Engineering Committee was headed by the Dean of the College, as well as a number of specialized faculty members at the Faculty of Engineering at Al-Nahrain University. The aim of the visit is to establish the mechanism of cooperation to receive students from military officers to complete their studies and obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. The College has shown no objection and has undertaken to study the required competencies and provide appropriate curricula and training. They agreed that the study should be extended to five years instead of four years.  It was also agreed to continue other close meetings to complete the procedures to start the study.

On Tuesday March 19, 2019, the Students of the Faculty of Engineering celebrated their near graduation in the gardens and squares of the university. The sections and gardens were decorated with posters that represented their fields of specialization, photos of graduates showing the days of study and colored balloons. The students celebrated on their own way, interspersed with music, folk songs and national anthems. The students wore authentic Arab dress. Students took photographs with teachers and study mates.  .

The Editorial Board of Al-Nahrain magazine for Engineering Sciences held its regular meeting on Monday, 18-March -2019. The editorial board discussed the submitted research papers, approved the publication of the accepted researches, and apologized for the rejected ones. The committee also discussed reducing the publication fees in the magazine and approved a reduction of wages to 50,000 dinars instead of one hundred and twenty-five thousand.. The committee also approved the new format for the consolidation of research in accordance with the appropriateness and status of the scientific journal.

Continuous Education Unit in the College of Engineering held a training course entitled “English conversation”    This training course aims to motivate the participants in English speaking by increasing the confidence of himself and promote their skills in conversation, listening and pronunciation correctly in the English language which is considered the most important supported language in the world.    This training course held in the multimedia laboratory in the college and contains studying the most important subjects of speaking in daily lifestyle by listening, learning, and speaking many phrases in certain situations.

The Faculty of Engineering has participated in the Badminton Championship organized by the Department of Student Activities at Al-Nahrain University.  The Engineering Faculty team has won the third place in the Badminton Championship. Our team consisted of Tali Nuri Sabah Nuri, Graduate Studies / Civil Engineering, and Sufian Mohammed Khalil, Architecture department. All the colleges and institutes of Al- Nahrain university has participated in it.

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Muthanna Assem Mahdi, representative of the AMIDEAST International Organization in Baghdad, has given an introductory lecture of the Fulbright Fellowship and the visiting professor and the mechanism of application. a number of professors who intend to apply for the program attended The workshop. Dr. Abdulrahman Jameel Ghdab head of student activities department at the college has distributed certificates of appreciation on behalf of the Dean. Afterward, the representative of the AMIDEAST has met The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Sattar Mohamed and discussed the possibilities and opportunities of cooperation between our Faculty and Organization (AMIDEAST). Then, they visited the multimedia language laboratory for the purpose of using the laboratory by the Organization in giving courses and training lectures for faculty members.

The Faculty of Engineering held a meeting of the graduate’s follow-up committees of the Faculty of Engineering.  The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering has met with Assistant Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Sattar Mohammed, the Head of the Rehabilitation and Employment Division at the University Presidency, the Head of the Graduates Follow-up Unit in the College, and the representatives of each department. The meeting has dealt with the need to follow the graduates and the outcomes in which graduates are capable to service of the community and the labor market.  The Dean has emphasized on the importance of providing the follow-up unit with all the information and updates of the graduates, with working statistics and data, to build an electronic database containing all information about Graduates from college. They have also discussed the necessity of participating in the “Design Day’ to be held at the end of this month. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to adopt a new electronic mechanism for the purpose of documenting and archiving the information of graduates electronically, which facilitates the process of obtaining statistics.  It also helps to keep in touch with graduates when their specialization is needed in any for the purpose of employment.

A delegation from the Korean Embassy in Baghdad and from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) a well as representatives from MOHESR visited the College of Engineering on Sunday, Oct 14, 2018. They were received by the Dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Abdul Sattar, Prof. Dr. Ra’ad Sami Faiyadh, and the Multimedia Language Lab supervision and operational team in the college.      The visit was to discuss the benefits of using the Multimedia Language Lab, the success of the project, and how it is being operated by the college faculty, as well as the obstacles and difficulties that the operating staff, faculty, and students faced in using the lab’s software and equipment since the establishment of the lab in 2015 till our present day. The Korean delegation expressed great joy upon visiting the lab and witnessing how well organized and maintained it is, as well as the frequency of operating it by the staff and the faculty of our college. The three parties also discussed future development plans for the lab such as the plan to make it a center recognized by MOHESR to teach the courses and conduct the tests of English Proficiency and IC3 for Applicants to postgraduate studies. In addition, further future cooperation between our college and the Korean side was considered that may serve the educational process and the possibility of applying for Korean universities’ scholarships and study grants for undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

Under the patronage of the Minister of the Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Abdul Razzaq Abdul Jalil Al-Issa, and with the  presence of the President of Al- Nahrain University, Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdul-Saheb, and a number of Ministry officials and heads of universities  the celebration of Science Day  takes place. It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research/ research and development department organizes the celebration. Assistant Professor Dr. Faiq Mohammed Sarhan Mohammed, from Al Nahrain University / Faculty of Engineering, has won the second prize for the best Author and Translator for the year 2017 for Engineering and Technology. This award is given to the best book or translation of a book.  The College has also won the first place for the under graduates students’ project award for 2017. The award has gone for Faten Jamal Shaker for her graduation project in the field of engineering and technology, which is under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Juma Salman Jiyad. Whereas Aseel Karim Ahmed, an undergraduate student, has won the second prize for the best project in the field of engineering and technology, which is under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Iyad Murad Takhakh and assistant lecturer Saif Mohammed Abbas.

A committee from the General Inspector office at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which is responsible for supervising the conduct of the exams taking place in different universities, visited the Faculty of Engineering at Al-Nahrain University. They inspected the performance of the second try exams for the academic year 2017/2018. The visit included a tour in the examination halls accompanied by Assistant Professor Dr. Shaima Hameed Hussein,who  briefed them with the conduct of examinations and conditions of students. The committee stressed on the importance of the provision of the appropriate exam atmosphere and commitment to the times specified for the exam. They also looked at some forms of examination questions and emphasized the need for clarity. At the end, they wished the students a nonstop success in their scientific journey.

Under the patronage of the religious authority in Najaf, the thirteenth minds festival was held to honor the outstanding first places students for the academic year 2017/2018. The representative of the religious authority Sheikh Hussein al-Yasin supervised the festival. The festival took place at the mosque of Al-Yassin in Kadhimiya in the presence of the representative of the president of the University of Al-Nahrain, the dean of the medicine faculty and a number of deans and members of the teaching staff at the university. The representative of the university president praised the role of the religious authority in communicating with the institutions of the higher education and its keenness on graduating students with a high national sense of belonging as well as their skills and scientific knowledge. Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul Sattar Mohammed and the Director of Student Activities Department Dr. Abdulrahman Jameel were represntitives of the faculty of engineering. They attended with the faculty’s outstanding first place students. The representative of the religious authority, Sheikh Hussein Al Yassin, honored the Deanship of the Faculty of Engineering and presented them with a book of appreciation for their efforts in educating the students, and respecting the mission of the College in servicing the community and working on the success of the educational process. The first place students were honored in order to encourage them to continue the excellence and perseverance, wishing them a non- stop scientific excellence to serve our beloved country.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering received a delegation from the University of Nottingham with a number of academics and officials of the Municipality of Baghdad on Thursday, 24 May 2018. The meeting included the discussing of the possibility of the participation of the Department of Architecture from the Faculty of Engineering in the projects of the Municipality of Baghdad and the development of Al-Rasheed Street. The mission of the delegation of the University of Nottingham is the digital architectural documentation of Al-Rasheed Street.  The attendants presented practical views on the preservation of Al-Rasheed Street. The faculty of engineering has also presented its initiative to provide advice and contribute to the reconstruction of the province of Mosul, which could be through actual projects.  It is worth mentioning that the Department of Architecture is one of the departments that is specialized in  (the heritage of local architecture), which is almost a rare specialization available compared to other universities.

The Ministerial Committee, responsible for supervising the conduct of the exams taking place in various universities, visited the Faculty of Engineering at Al-Nahrain University.  They inspected the final examinations of the second semester of the academic year 2017/2018. They made a tour around the examination halls accompanied by the assistants of the Dean of the College of Engineering. The committee made sure that all the necessary and appropriate conditions should be made for the students, in addition to the importance of respecting the time of the examinations. Then they saw some examination questions samples and insisted that the questions should be clear, wishing the students all the best of luck.
